Day 15: The Bad Habit Hit List: A Countdown to Unf*cking Your Life, One Crappy Habit at a Time
#1: Fear of not being enough, i.e. The real villain behind ALL your bad habits
Let’s cut the crap.
We’ve gone through the list of bad habits.
Self-sabotage.
Overthinking.
Procrastination.
Negative self-talk.
Imposter syndrome.
…and all those sneaky little fuckers that keep you stuck.
The list is endless.
But here’s the real shitter: They all have the same puppet master.
Fear.
More specifically, the fear of not being enough.
Every self-destructive habit you have?
It all boils down to that gnawing, soul-sucking doubt that whispers, “You’re not good enough, smart enough, talented enough, worthy enough.”
And so, to protect yourself from that horrible possibility, you develop defence mechanisms that make you feel even worse.
Why you keep tripping over your own feet
You think you’re struggling with procrastination?
Nope.
You’re terrified of failing, so you don’t start.You think you’re a perfectionist?
Nope.
You’re scared that if you don’t do things perfectly, you’ll be exposed as a fraud. You think you’re just overthinking?
Nope.
You’re paralyzed by the idea that you’ll make the wrong choice and prove, once and for all, that you’re inadequate.
See the pattern?
Fear is a lousy life coach
Fear convinces you that the best way to deal with self-doubt is to never risk proving it true.
Don’t try = you can’t fail.
Don’t put yourself out there = no one can reject you.
Don’t chase your dreams = you never have to face the possibility that you might not be good enough to achieve them.
Great plan!
Except it means you’re stuck, frustrated, and living a life that feels smaller than it should.
What’s the fix? (And no, it’s not “Just be confident!”)
1. Accept That You Will Never Feel "Enough"—And Do It Anyway
Newsflash: No one feels 100% “enough” all the time.
Not even the people who look like they have their shit together.
The trick isn’t to eliminate self-doubt.
The trick is to act despite it.
2. Reframe the Fear
Fear of failure?
Cool.
That means you actually care about something.
Instead of seeing it as a stop sign, see it as a signal that you’re stepping outside your comfort zone—where all the good stuff happens.
3. Start Before You Feel Ready
Waiting to feel ready is a scam.
You’ll never feel ready.
Confidence comes after action, not before it.
So start.
Even if it’s messy, even if it’s scary.
Especially then.
4. Talk to Yourself Like You Would a Friend
Would you tell a struggling friend, “Yeah, you suck, don’t even try”?
No?
Then quit saying it to yourself.
Mic-drop
At the end of the day, your biggest enemy isn’t failure, rejection, or looking like an idiot.
It’s never even trying.
The villain was never perfectionism, procrastination, or self-doubt.
The villain was fear of not being enough.
And the hero?
Well, that’s you—when you finally decide to stop letting fear drive.
Now go do the thing.
You’re more than enough already.
